In short: when is the best time to visit Turin?

For most trips, spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) are the best time. It's usually pleasant for walking, the hills and day-trip destinations around Turin are easy to reach, and both seasons bring major events: the Salone del Libro book fair in May, and in autumn the Alba truffle fair, Artissima, the ATP Finals tennis and the Torino Film Festival.

Winter is cold but has its own highlights: from 22 October 2026 to 10 January 2027 the Luci d'Artista light up the city, December adds the Christmas markets, and February brings the CioccolaTò chocolate festival. Summer is hot – good for evenings outdoors, festivals and trips to Lake Maggiore or the mountains, less so for long city walks in the midday heat.

Important for your planning: Turin's big museums have different closing days, and public holidays often come with special opening hours. You'll find both further down.

Spring (March to May): parks, hills and the Salone del Libro

In spring Turin gets noticeably milder, the days grow longer, and on clear days you can still see the snow-capped Alps behind the city. This is the time for long walks: through the Parco del Valentino along the Po, up to the Monte dei Cappuccini or by rack railway to the Basilica di Superga. Expect some rainy days, though, and pack a jacket.

Easter and long weekends: Easter Monday (29 March 2027), 25 April and 1 May are public holidays. On these days and the weekends around them, lots of Italians are on the move – book museums with a reservation.

Torino Jazz Festival: In 2026 the festival ran from 25 April to 2 May. The organiser has yet to announce the 2027 dates.

Salone Internazionale del Libro: Italy's most important book fair takes place every May at Lingotto Fiere (Via Nizza 294) – in 2026 from 14 to 18 May. That week the city is full, especially around the Lingotto. The official 2027 dates had not been set on 1 October 2026.

Day trips: In March the season starts on the Borromean Islands on Lake Maggiore – in 2026 Isola Bella and Isola Madre opened on 12 March; the 2027 date has not been set yet. More on our page Lake Maggiore from Turin.

Summer (June to August): San Giovanni, festivals and Ferragosto

In summer Turin is hot and often humid, with the chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Do your sightseeing in the morning, spend the midday heat in a museum, and in the evening the squares and the banks of the Po come alive. For evening ideas, see our pages on Aperitivo and Turin by night.

Feast of St John (Festa di San Giovanni, 24 June): St John the Baptist is Turin's patron saint. Around 24 June there are concerts, parades and regattas on the Po. The traditional highlight is the fireworks display late in the evening of 24 June – in 2026 it started at 23:00, after a concert on Piazza Vittorio Veneto. The patron saint's day is a holiday in Turin only; Palazzo Madama lists it among its holiday openings.

Kappa FuturFestival: The open-air electronic music festival takes place from 2 to 4 July 2027 in Parco Dora, a park on a former industrial site.

August and Ferragosto: 15 August (Assumption Day, "Ferragosto") is a public holiday across Italy, and around this time many Italians go on holiday. The city is quieter then, and some restaurants and smaller shops may close for the summer break – look out for signs saying "chiuso per ferie". The museums' holiday opening hours for 15 August 2027 had not been published on 1 October 2026; check them shortly beforehand.

Escape the heat: In summer, trips to higher ground or to the water are a good idea – to the Aosta Valley, the Sacra di San Michele or Lake Maggiore.

Autumn (September to November): truffles, art, tennis and cinema

For many, autumn is the most beautiful time in Turin and Piedmont: the vineyards of the Langhe change colour, the truffle season starts in Alba, and the city has a packed cultural programme. From late October the days get shorter and it can be foggy.

September: September brings the MITO SettembreMusica music festival (in 2026 from 6 to 20 September). In 2026 there was also Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, the big Slow Food gathering, from 24 to 27 September in the city centre; the next edition had not been announced on 1 October 2026. In late August and early September, the Fiera Nazionale del Peperone (pepper fair) takes place in Carmagnola, south of Turin (2026: 28 August to 6 September).

Alba truffle fair: The 96th Alba International White Truffle Fair (Fiera Internazionale del Tartufo Bianco d'Alba) runs from 10 October to 6 December 2026, with the World White Truffle Market in the Cortile della Maddalena. You can reach Alba by train from Turin. Everything about the fair, truffle hunting and getting there is on our page Alba and white truffles; for wine tours, see Langhe & Barolo.

Art and music in late October: The Artissima art fair (33rd edition) takes place from 30 October to 1 November 2026 at the Oval Lingotto Fiere. At the same time, the C2C – Club To Club music festival runs from 29 October to 1 November 2026 at various venues around the city.

November: The Nitto ATP Finals, the season finale for the world's top eight tennis players, take place from 15 to 22 November 2026 at the Inalpi Arena. The Torino Film Festival follows from 24 November to 2 December 2026, opening at the Teatro Regio. The city is busy during these weeks – book early. Film fans should also visit the National Cinema Museum in the Mole Antonelliana.

Opera: The 2026/27 season at the Teatro Regio runs from 16 October 2026 to 29 June 2027.

Winter (December to February): light art, Christmas and chocolate

December and January in Turin are cold and often foggy; on clear days you can see the snow-covered Alps. In return the city is especially atmospheric, and under the arcades of Via Po and Via Roma you stay dry even when it rains.

Luci d'Artista: The 29th edition of the open-air light art exhibition runs from 22 October 2026 to 10 January 2027. The works are installed on squares, bridges and rooftops all over the city. Everything about the lights, the Christmas markets, the Luzzati nativity scene and New Year's Eve is on our page Christmas in Turin.

CioccolaTò: The chocolate festival takes place from 10 to 14 February 2027 on Piazza Vittorio Veneto and at other venues. 10 February is reserved for trade visitors; from 11 February the public is welcome. For the first time, the 2027 guest country is a foreign one: Belgium. To go with it: our page on chocolate, Bicerin and historic cafés.

Ivrea Carnival: The historic carnival of Ivrea, north of Turin, begins on 6 January 2027. Its famous Battle of the Oranges takes place on the last days of carnival – Sunday, Monday and Shrove Tuesday. In 2026 that was 15 to 17 February, in 2025 early March. The organisers publish the 2027 programme on storicocarnevaleivrea.it.

Sport: From 17 to 21 February 2027, the Frecciarossa Final Eight basketball tournament is played at the Inalpi Arena.

Winter is also the quietest time for museums, apart from the holidays between Christmas and Epiphany. Our page Turin on a rainy day collects ideas for cold and wet days.

High season, low season and closing days: how to plan smart

Unlike many beach resorts, Turin doesn't have a single high season. It gets busy mainly during big events – the Salone del Libro in May, Artissima and C2C in late October, the ATP Finals and the Torino Film Festival in November – as well as on long holiday weekends and between Christmas and Epiphany. Outside these dates, weekdays are more relaxed.

Museum closing days: On Mondays the Egyptian Museum (09:00–14:00), the Musei Reali, the National Cinema Museum and Palazzo Madama are open. The Cinema Museum and Palazzo Madama close on Tuesdays, the Musei Reali on Wednesdays. La Venaria Reale and the Stupinigi hunting lodge are closed on Mondays. The overview for every day of the week is on our page Museums open on Monday.

First Sunday of the month: The Musei Reali are free on that day; free tickets are only available at the ticket office. Expect queues.

Book ahead at weekends and on public holidays: With the Torino Card, a reservation for the Egyptian Museum is mandatory at weekends and on public holidays, and strongly recommended on weekdays. That applies all the more during event weeks.

How many days to plan and how to fill them is shown in our routes for 1 day, 2 days and 3 days in Turin.

The Torino Card in every season

The Torino + Piemonte Card is valid all year round for 24, 48, 72 or 120 hours, depending on your choice; the 24-hour card covers a maximum of three museums. It gives you free entry to the Egyptian Museum, the Musei Reali, the National Cinema Museum, Palazzo Madama, MAUTO and La Venaria Reale, among others – handy on cold, rainy or very hot days. At the 2026 Salone del Libro, the card also gave you reduced entry. Whether the Torino Card or the Royal Pass is the better deal is shown in our Torino Card vs Royal Pass comparison.
