How an evening in Turin works

Turismo Torino describes a nightlife "for every taste" – from historic cafés to cocktail bars, breweries, clubs and live music. The evening usually follows a set order:

  • Aperitivo: In the early evening, people meet for a vermouth, a spritz or a glass of wine with nibbles. How it works and what an apericena is are explained on our page on Aperitivo in Turin.
  • Dinner: Then it's off to a trattoria or restaurant. What ends up on the table is explained under Piedmontese food.
  • Late evening: If you carry on, you'll end up in one of the nightlife districts – San Salvario, Vanchiglia, the Quadrilatero Romano or along the Po.

It's quieter during the week; on Fridays and Saturdays the districts are packed. Public transport is geared to this too: only on these nights and before public holidays do the night buses and the metro run later (see below).

We deliberately don't recommend individual bars and clubs. Venues in Turin open and close all the time; pick what you like on the spot. This page shows you where to look.

The nightlife districts at a glance

Turismo Torino names these areas as evening meeting places. Each has its own character – and its own crowd.

San Salvario

According to Turismo Torino the city's main nightlife district, right next to Porta Nuova station. Its centre is Largo Saluzzo, surrounded by cocktail bars, breweries, trattorias and clubs, popular with young people. At weekends it goes on until morning.

To San Salvario

Vanchiglia

The university district behind the Mole Antonelliana. Turismo Torino counts it, together with Aurora, among the districts where more and more bars, bistros and pizzerias are opening, often with concerts and culture. The meeting point is Piazza Santa Giulia with Via Giulia di Barolo.

To Vanchiglia

Quadrilatero Romano

According to Turismo Torino, the city's oldest district is also its traditional nightlife area: narrow lanes with restaurants serving Piedmontese and international food, and bars with cocktails and music. The evening extends on into Borgo Dora.

To the Quadrilatero Romano

Murazzi del Po

Until the 1950s, fishermen's boathouses sat beneath these 19th-century embankment walls. Today, according to Turismo Torino, there's apericena, dinner, cocktails and music right on the river, just below Piazza Vittorio Veneto.

Piazza Vittorio Veneto

Turin's largest square, lined with arcades, with historic cafés and restaurants. This is the classic place to start the evening with vermouth or Piedmontese wine. From the square you look across the Po to the church of Gran Madre di Dio.

To the Gran Madre

Piazza San Carlo

For an elegant evening in the centre. According to Turismo Torino, Caffè San Carlo (since 1822) and Caffè Torino (since 1903) offer an elegant setting for an aperitif. Afterwards, the whole old town is within walking distance.

A walk through the illuminated city

Turin is at its most beautiful on foot in the evening. The arcades keep off the rain, and the big squares are lit up. An evening walk that links almost all the nightlife areas:

  1. Piazza Castello: Start in front of Palazzo Madama and the Royal Palace in the very centre.
  2. Via Po: Walk straight under the arcades towards the river. On the left, the Mole Antonelliana rises above the rooftops – a short detour is worth it.
  3. Piazza Vittorio Veneto: Turin's largest square opens out towards the Po. Time for an Aperitivo under the arcades.
  4. Ponte Vittorio Emanuele I: Cross the Napoleonic-era bridge to the other bank, looking down on the Murazzi.
  5. Gran Madre di Dio: The church stands at the foot of the hills. From its steps you look back at Piazza Vittorio and the lights on the river.
  6. Monte dei Cappuccini: If you still have the energy, climb up via Corso Moncalieri to the viewpoint. From there the city and the Mole lie spread out before you.

Head back over the bridge to the Murazzi or carry on to Vanchiglia. Read more about the Gran Madre and Monte dei Cappuccini on our page on Borgo Po and the Gran Madre; places that cost nothing are listed under Free things to do in Turin.

Mole Antonelliana: city lights before the museum closes

According to the National Cinema Museum, the Mole doesn't open in the evening beyond 19:00. The Cinema Museum and the panoramic lift are open Wednesday to Monday 09:00–19:00 and closed on Tuesdays. The ticket office closes an hour before closing time, and the last lift goes up ten minutes before closing.

Even so, you can see the city after dark from here: after the clocks change in late October, it's dark in Turin before 19:00. If you take one of the last lifts in late autumn or winter, you look out from the terrace at 85 metres over the illuminated streets and squares.

  • A reservation is mandatory for the lift alone; the museum expressly recommends booking online. If you arrive late for your time slot, entry isn't guaranteed.
  • With the Torino + Piemonte Card, the Cinema Museum is free and the lift is reduced.

All times, prices and tours are on our page on the Mole Antonelliana and the National Cinema Museum.

Museums in the evening: which stay open late?

Evenings at the Royal Palace: Estate Reale until 31 October 2026

Until 31 October 2026, the Musei Reali are holding their "Estate Reale – Una sera al museo" evenings. On selected evenings, according to Turismo Torino, the museums open from 19:45 to 23:30, last admission 22:45. Each evening features a different area of the Musei Reali, with a programme of events.

There are separate tickets for the evenings. Which dates are still on in October and which area is open is shown in the Musei Reali ticket shop. Whether the programme will return in 2027 was not known on 1 October 2026.

Luci d’Artista: light art from 22 October 2026 to 10 January 2027

Since 1998, the Luci d’Artista have turned Turin into an open-air gallery of light every winter. According to Turismo Torino, the 29th edition runs from 22 October 2026 to 10 January 2027. The works hang above squares, on bridges and on rooftops – you can see them for free on an evening walk.

Several installations are right in the nightlife areas:

  • Piazza Vittorio Veneto: "VR Man" by Angelidakis.
  • Ponte Vittorio Emanuele I: "Doppio Passaggio (Torino)" by Kosuth.
  • Mole Antonelliana: "Il volo dei numeri" by Merz.
  • Monte dei Cappuccini: "Piccoli spiriti blu" by Horn.
  • Piazza San Carlo: "Bouncing the Ball" by Previdi.
  • Piazza della Repubblica (Porta Palazzo): "Amare le differenze" by Pistoletto.

So the walk above combines nicely with light art. The city doesn't publish fixed lighting times – it's best to set off after dark. All works and locations are on our page on Christmas and Luci d’Artista.

"Night Buster" night buses

On Fridays, Saturdays and before public holidays, ten night bus lines run. The central hub is Piazza Vittorio Veneto, with stops near the main nightlife areas. According to GTT, buses run from Piazza Vittorio to the outer districts from 01:00 to 05:00, and from the outer districts into the centre from 00:00 to 04:00. Normal tickets are valid. Lines and a map are available at GTT Night Buster.

Taxi

Radio Taxi Torino can be reached around the clock, including on public holidays, on 011 5737 or 011 5730, or via the Wetaxi app. Especially late at night during the week, a taxi is often the easiest option.

By car

The ZTL Centrale only applies on weekday mornings, so in the evening you can drive into the centre. Exception: the ZTL Area Romana is closed to through traffic and parking daily from 21:00 to 07:30, and the ZTL Valentino around the clock. Blue parking zones are chargeable Monday to Saturday until 19:30. Everything else is on our page on Driving, ZTL and parking. And: if you drink, don't drive.

Rules and safety at night

Glass and cans

Under the City of Turin's police regulations, the sale and consumption of drinks in glass or metal containers between 23:00 and 07:00 is prohibited throughout the city. In 20 busy zones, according to the city, the ban applies from 21:00. The municipal police carry out regular checks in the nightlife districts. In practice this means: drink inside the venue or at its outdoor tables, not from a bottle in the street.

Consideration for residents

San Salvario, Vanchiglia and the Quadrilatero are residential districts. The City of Turin has drawn up a dedicated noise-control plan for the nightlife streets in San Salvario and Vanchiglia. Keeping quiet on your way home is considered good manners in Turin. If you're staying in one of these districts: it can be noisy until late at weekends.

Safety

In the busy districts, Turin is generally fine to get around in the evening. The usual big-city rules apply:

  • Keep valuables close to your body, especially in the crowds outside bars and around the stations.
  • Choose busy, well-lit streets and don't cross large parks such as the Parco del Valentino alone at night.
  • Don't leave drinks unattended.
  • Plan your way home in advance: the metro and night buses don't run equally late every night.
  • In an emergency, the European emergency number 112 applies throughout Piedmont.
