What to expect from a cooking class in Turin

Cooking classes in Turin are almost always small-scale. You won't find big cookery schools with dozens of places on the booking platforms – instead you cook with just a few other guests or completely privately.

Three formats are common:

  • Class in a local's home: a host, usually from the Cesarine network, shows you recipes from the family cookbook in their own kitchen. You only get the exact address after booking.
  • Small group with a fixed meeting point: a team of hosts invites you into their flat in Turin. The meeting point and programme are fixed in advance.
  • Classes in the countryside: in the Langhe, in Asti or at a winery just outside Turin you cook Piedmontese classics such as tajarin, agnolotti or bonèt, often with local wine.

At the end you eat what you've cooked. Water and wine are included in most classes – exactly what's included is listed for each option below.

Cooking with locals: how it works

Many classes in Turin are run through the Cesarine, a network of hosts who teach in their own kitchens. For you, that means:

  • Address only after booking: for privacy reasons you only get the exact address with your confirmation.
  • Give your preferences in advance: when you book, the provider asks about allergies, your preferred district and how you'll get there, so they can find a suitable host.
  • Menu depends on the host: for the private classes, only the number of recipes is fixed – which ones depends on the host and the season.

If you'd rather know in advance where you're going, choose the class with the fixed meeting point on Corso Belgio.

Cooking class with a market visit: what about Porta Palazzo?

The market at Porta Palazzo would be the obvious place to shop before cooking. However, the big booking platforms currently have no class that explicitly shops there: the market visit with a Cesarina above doesn't name the market.

Our tip: go there on your own before or after your class. Everything about the market is on our page about the Porta Palazzo market. For a true market and cooking day, head to the Langhe: the class in Alba starts with a market visit (see below).

These classes take place on site; you arrange your own travel from Turin, except for the class in Alba, which includes a transfer to the market and the kitchen. Piedmontese dishes in brief

You'll come across these names in class descriptions and on menus in Turin. Italian cuisine has been on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage since December 2025.

Agnolotti del plin

Small filled parcels of egg pasta, usually with a meat filling. "Plin" means pinch: the dough is pressed together between thumb and fingers. Classically served with roast gravy or with butter and sage.

Tajarin

Very thin ribbon noodles made from egg dough, bright yellow thanks to all the eggs. Typically served with a meat sauce or with butter and white truffle from Alba.

Bonèt

Piedmont's best-known spoon dessert, a pudding with cocoa and amaretti biscuits. In dialect also spelt "bunét".

Vitello tonnato

Slow-cooked veal in thin slices with a creamy sauce of tuna, egg yolk, anchovies and capers – a classic starter.

Bagna caoda

A hot sauce of garlic, anchovies and oil, into which you dip seasonal vegetables.

Bollito misto

Various boiled meats served with sauces, such as the typical green sauce "salsa verde".

Which class suits whom?

  • First time making pasta: the pasta and tiramisu class with hosts or the Express class with a maximum of 4 people. No previous experience needed.
  • Families with children: check the age limits. The Corso Belgio class is for ages 12 and over, the agnolotti class in Asti from 6, the chocolate workshop from 7. The Cesarine's private classes are booked as your own group.
  • Vegetarian or with allergies: no provider explicitly guarantees a vegetarian menu. The hosts do, however, ask you to let them know about allergies and dietary requirements before the class – do so right when you book. According to the provider, the pizza class is not suitable for people with food allergies.
  • Piedmontese cooking rather than all-round pasta: for tajarin, agnolotti and bonèt, head to the Langhe or to Asti. In the city you learn tajarin on the Corso Belgio class.
  • Wheelchair users: according to the provider, the pasta and tiramisu class with hosts is not suitable, and the gelato show-cooking is in a basement without a lift.
  • Language: all the classes featured here are offered in English. Several also run in French, Spanish or Italian.
